 Dhruva Mistry

        
         
 

 Dhruva was born in 1957, Kanjari, Gujarat . Studied MA, Faculty of Fine Arts, M SU, Baroda from 1974-81, then at the Royal College of Art in London from 1981-83 on a British Council Scholarship. 1984-85 artist in residence at Kettle's Yard Gallery with a Fellowship at Churchill College in Cambridge . In 1994, solo show , Asian Artist Today- Fukuoka Annual VII , Japan . Returns to Vadodara in 1997. Dhruva was elected member of the Royal Academy of Arts in 1991 and Fellow of the Royal Society of British Sculptors, London in 1993.

  • 1981 - Atul National Drawing Competition, Lalit Kala Akademi, Ahmedabad (Award) Drawing Competition Chandigarh Museum, Chandigarh (Award)
  • 1981-83 Awarded British Council Scholarship at the Royal College of Art, London
  • 1983 - The Madame Taussaud's Award for Art at the RCA, London
  • 1984-85 Artist in Residence in association with the Arts Council of Britain at Kettle's Yard Gallery with Fellowship at Churchill College, Cambridge
  • 1988 Sculptor in Residence, Victoria & Albert Museum, London
  • 1990 - Represented Britain at the Third Rodin Grand Prize Exhibition, Japan (Award)
  • 1991 - Elected Associate Member and Royal Academician, Royal Academy of Arts, London
    Jack Goldhill Award and short listed for Korn/Ferry International Premier Award
  • 1992 -Commissioned Sculptor of the Victoria Square by the City Council of Birmingham
    The Civic Trust, Woodhouse and the Renaissance Awards for Victoria Square
  • 1993 - Elected Fellow of the Royal Society of British Sculptors, London
  • 1994 - Selected for a one man show, Asian Artist Today- Fukuoka Annual VII Exhibition, organized by Fukuoka Asian Art Museum, Fukuoka, Japan Award for the Design of Humanities Prize Medal, London
  • 1995 - Design and President's Award, Victoria Square Sculptures The Landscape Institute and Marsh Fountain of the Year Award
  • 1998 - Selected for the Millennium Medal Competition, London
  • 1999 - Appointed Professor, Head of Sculpture & Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts, the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, Vadodara
  • 2001 - Awarded Honorary CBE (Commander of the most excellent Order of the British Empire) by the Queen Elizabeth, London 
  • 1976 - Gujarat State Lalit Kala Akademi, Ahmedabad (Awards in 1978 and 1982)
