Samir Mondal was born in Balti, in West Bengal. He studied at the Government College of Arts and Crafts. Kolkata. Later, he went to France and Germany as part of the INDO-FRG Cultural Exchange Program. Mondal has participated in many group shows, including the National Art exhibition of Lalit Kata Akademi, as well as in group shows in London and New York and with Saffronart in Hong Kong. He is a recipient of the West Bengal State Academy Award and the Award of the Academy of Fine Arts. His woks are in the collections of the National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi and the Museum of Karnataka. Mondal lives and works in Mumbai.
